| Calgarians Party with a PurposeMedia Release June 12, 2006 Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay raises over $130,000 to send 260 deserving kids to camp. Calgary AB - This weekend, hundreds of participants gathered at Canada Olympic and partied with a purpose at the 21st annual Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay. Putting the "fun" in fundraising, participants challenged themselves as they walked, ran and danced all day and all night long raising important funds for Easter Seals kids. The weekend celebration was highlighted by the words of a few deserving kids with special needs as they voiced their appreciation to the participants at the closing ceremony. This summer, 16 year-old Joseph Waring will return to Easter Seals Camp Horizon and will spend a week at camp with other kids his age who also have cerebral palsy. "In my everyday world, I'm Jo, the guy in the wheelchair …but at Easter Seals Camp Horizon, I'm just Jo", said a thankful Waring. "I really appreciate everyone here raising money to help send me and other kids to camp. It's the best thing in my life." Kids with special needs like Joseph can thank Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay participants young and old for their enthusiasm and dedication to the fundraising event. Top corporate fundraising team went to Century 21 for raising in excess of $26,000 for Easter Seals kids. "I am always so overwhelmed by the impact one person or a team of 20 can make," said Susan Law, CEO of Alberta Easter Seals. "Their personal involvement and contribution in the 24-Hour Relay will make a difference and change a child's life forever. Over the last 21 years, the Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay has raised over $5 million for Easter Seals kids in Alberta. Proceeds from the relay support Easter Seals programs that include Equipment and Support Services to help kids with disabilities and their families purchase specialized equipment such as communication aids, mobility devices, home & driving adaptations. The fundraiser also supports Easter Seals Camp Horizon, a recreational program for children with disabilities or special needs. At Easter Seals Camp Horizon children with special needs are encouraged to challenge themselves in ways they never thought imaginable.
